Hello.

I am just starting to search for the family genealogy of my grandmother Nellie Darlene Shere. I have some sketchy information about my grandmother and I'm not sure how to proceed. I can give you the name of her husband and her children. Her daughters were born in Tampico and her son (my father) was born in Thomas. I can also give you information of where and when she died, and where she is buried, as well as information about my father and aunts who are all gone now.

This is a new process for me so any information I can share with anyone, I would appreciate greatly.

Thank you,
Sharol (Heintzelman) Molland

Sharol,
Could you please give some details, such as date of birth of Nellie, her parents, her spouse and/or childrens' names, dates/places of birth?

Have you seen the photos on the site for Nellie Shere Heinzelman and Temple Shere? http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/albums/album_image/46258/843302.htm

If you are related to that Nellie Shere, then you have lots of connections to our site members! I hope they jump in here!

I hadn't expected to find anything on my grandmother, but this morning I decided to look at the pictures of the Shere family. The first one I looked at, of course, was of Nellie and Temple Shere....my grandmothers eyes were looking out at me when I saw it, and now I'm sitting here crying!!! I'll print out your questions and see what I can fill in, and I'll send you a reply later. I'm on my way to church right now!!

This is so exciting...thank you, thank you, thank you.

Hi Deb,

I am pretty sure that you are my family, and I am very excited about that. I live south of Eau Claire, WI now in a farming community outside a small place called Gilmanton, WI. I moved out here in 1963 with my husband and baby daugher, and didn't get home again to Oregon until our second daughter was 14 months old. I have some pictures that were taken that summer of Grandma, and then she died the next year.

This is what I have so far for my grandparents. Nellie Darlene Shere was born April 28, 1894. I don't know where she was born. She passed away Dec. 21, 1966 in Coquille, OR after she had been ill for some time. I was living in Wisconsin at the time so I wasn't able to go back for her funeral. She's buried at Myrtle Grove Cemetery outside Coquille. I plan to take a picture of her stone when I go out this summer. She married David LeRoy Heintzelman, but I haven't found out that date and place, either. Roy was the name he went by. He was born Nov. 14, 1892 and passed away Feb. 21, 1968 in Hayward. I was finally able to visit him about 6 mon. before he died.

Nellie and Roy had three children:

Bernadine Adella Heintzelman was born Aug. 5, 1914 in Tampico. She died May 17, 1988 in Coquille, OR. She married Zora Phillips, but don't know when or where. They had three sons: Emery, Paul, and Zane.

My dad, Vernon Edward Heintzelman was born Aug. 14, 1915 in Thomas, IL. He died June 7, 1970 in Las Vegas, NV. He and my mother Virginia Anna Mae Page were married Mar.1, 1937, in Coquille, OR, I believe. They were divorced April 13, 1953. He had two more wives after that. He had three children with my mother: Sharol, Verna Sue, and John.

Viola Darlene Heintzelman was born Feb. 26, 1918 in Tampico. She died June 16, 1995 in Coquille. She was married to Ed Buckley on June 18, 1938 at Eagle Point (I think that's the name of the place). They had three children: LaVerne, Judith, and David.

When my sister and I were very little, my mother took a train out to Joliet, IL to be with my grandparents when my dad was in the Army. I have very vague recollections of that time. I must have been around 3 yrs. old at the time. I know that my grandfather became an engineer for the railroad at some time, and he retired from the railroad and moved to Hayward after that. I'm not sure of all the reasons, but my mother had filled me in on some things. Grandma (Nellie) moved to Coquille, OR by herself in the early 1950s. I'm thinking it was about 1952. She and Roy were never divorced.

I don't have an obituary for either Grandma or Grandpa yet. When Grandma (Nellie) died we were living in here in WI and I wasn't able to afford the trip to Oregon to attend her funeral. The seven cousins that were living in Oregon attended her funeral. When Grandpa died only my brother John and I attended his funeral in Hayward, WI.

My email address is smolland@nelson-tel.net if you should want to contact me in that way.

Thanks so much. I look forward to more communications with you.

Sharol,
You addressed your message to Deb. Was that Deb Peterson? Have you had contact with her? I'm hoping she can add more info and photos for you. She is the one that submitted the photo of your g/m on this site.

I have added bits and pieces to my prior messages in this thread - not sure if you read them all, since I added them at different times. Hope it was helpful to you.

Here's another obit for you that is posted on this site:

CHARITY (WILSIE) SHERE

Died at her home near Yorktownm Ill., Monday, May 21, 1894, of consumption, aged 37 years and 11 months. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at theYorktown church and the remains were interred in theYorktown cemetery.

SUBMITTED BY LES NIEMI

From the Bureau County Times - June 8, 1894

Mrs. William Shere passed away May 21, 1894, at almost 9:00 am. She was born in Orange County, N.Y. June 10, 1856 and so attained the age of 37 years 11 months and 11 days. She had three brothers and five sisters, all of whom survive her. The family consisted of two sons and two daughters: Clarence and Albert, May and Darlene.

Mrs. Shere took sick about October 1st with soreness of the throat which continued to grow worse from day to day until at last she was bed ridden. Her children ministered to her daily, which was a great comfort to her. She showed heroic patience and characteristic concern for the well being of others more than for herself. She gave repeated assurance that she rested on Jesus for future salvation and desired to depart and be at rest. Her funeral services were held at the church in Yorktown, at 2 O'clock, Wednesday afternoon May 26th conducted by Reverend Fahr, between three and four hundred people attending. The pallbearers were: Marion Ladue, Werner Cox, Sherman Comings, William Lane, and William Forward. The long procession went to the Fairfield Cemetery on foot. Thus, we laid to rest on that beautiful day in May one of that beloved pair, whose remembrance on account of their jovial friendship, generous hospitality, honesty, thrift and interested helpfulness to all in need of help, is entwined with grateful reminiscence in the memory of people in the Bureau and Henry Counties. The thanks of the family are rendered to many friends.

Your ggm died a month after she gave birth to your g/m - I wonder if she died from complications of the child birth? Any family stories passed down?

Sorry, Denise. No I haven't communicated with Deb. I had just sent out a message to a friend this morning, and must have had Deb, my friend, on my mind when I wrote this to you this morning.

I'll see what I can do about sending you an obituary for my grandmother. It might take me awhile to get it from one of my cousins or maybe even my sister. As I think back, it may very well be that Grandma did lose her mother after she was born. Something kind of tickles my brain on that one. I didn't know my grandmother until I was about 10 or 11 years old. She and my grandfather had come to Oregon to visit a couple times when they were still together. That would have been in the late 40s.

I do have my dad's and Aunt Vi's obituary, but all I have for Aunt Bernie is the handout given at her funeral. I will send them to you.

Thank you so much.

Sharol - I will send your email to Deb & Mike to contact you! Just as an FYI - I am not related to any of these families. I am merely the Family History Coordinator for the Tampico Historical Society's Family History Library/Research Center.

Sorry about that, Denise. When I settled down and read things more clearly, I figured it out that you were a coordinator and not a family member. And I appreciate it so much for contacting Mike and Deb for me. I was looking through some of the messages and thought I had found email addresses for them, and wondered how current they were. I sent out a short message, and the only one that appears to maybe have gone through was to Mike.

I saw the picture of Nellie and Temple you sent and that's what got me so excited. Also, I've been studying a lot of the information, and have sent the website on to my brother John.

Thanks so much.

My stepsister Monja will probably be checking out your website. Her mother was married to my dad Vernon Heintzelman from about 1957 until he died in 1970 in Las Vegas, NV. She is interested in learning what she can, and also to see the pictures. I'm hoping my brother John Heintzelman will be checking in soon, too.
