Beacon News Staff Honor Flight Chicago is gearing up for its third flight and needs help to make it special. Honor Flight is a national organization that gives World War II veterans a free flight to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials in their honor. The Chicago branch began taking Illinois veterans on their own flights earlier this year, and their third trip is scheduled for Wednesday. Fifty-six World War II veterans are booked for this flight, which leaves Midway Airport in Chicago early Wednesday morning and returns at 9:15 p.m. the same day. As part of the event, Honor Flight rounds up local people to welcome the veterans home after their long day in Washington. First Student bus company has offered to take volunteers to Midway for the welcome-home party. Two 45-person buses will leave for the airport at 7:45 p.m. from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 501 at 1295 Butterfield Road in Aurora. The buses will return after 11 p.m. Anyone interested in riding the buses is asked to call (630) 264-3049. For more information on Honor Flight Chicago, call (773) 227-8387, or log on to www.honorflightchicago.org.

Update: I have corrected the link for the slideshow for our area Vets in the beginning of this message thread. However, you can also watch the slideshow on our Picasa Web Album (Military) which shows the names of the men and women who served us well. MILITARY SLIDESHOW
