Hi, I am starting research on the genealogy of the John Thamer Winkler & Hannah Noon family. Any help would be appreciated.

Brian, The Tampico Historical Society page says that Charles Noon is buried in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery, but I was not able to find his grave or tombstone listed on the cemetery site.

Can you help? I believe that John and Hannah are buried in the Leon Cemetery.

Thanks

Maggie Winkler

Hi Maggie, Nice to hear from you.

You have started out on a good website but you need to check out the Leon cemetery link rather than the Tampico cemetery link. There you will find interred:

WINKLER Hazel 1904-1989
WINKLER Hannah 1874-1950
WINKLER John T 1862-1937
WINKLER Ralph 1903-1972
WINKLER Ralph Leon 1931
WINKLER Ray 2+07-
WINKLER Viola G 1910-

and....

if you search the site for WINKLER, you will find the Bio for John & Anna nee NOON WINKLER as well as numerous other artifacts that will be of interst to you I'm sure.

MaggieMay,

I found the following obits in my Tampico Tornado microfilm:

Tampico Tornado:
February 29, 1912
Death of Mrs. Martha NOON
Mrs. Martha NOON an aged resident of Tampico township and an old settler died at her home five miles southwest of Tampico Monday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Death resulted from the infirmitives [sic] of old age and an attack of pneumonia with which she was taken about a week previous. She had been in poor health all winter.
The funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Tampico, Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. There will be short services at the house but not public. Interment will be in the Tampico cemetery.
Martha HUGHES was born at Nightcote, England, Oct. 8, 1830 where she spent her girlhood and was married to Chas. NOON in 1848. The couple came to America in 1874 and settled near Tampico which place has been their home since. She was a member of the English church and was a quite unassuming lady who had raised a large family and performed the duties of mother faithfully to her children. There were fourteen children born in the family, two of which are dead. Those that survive are: Thos. NOON of Tampico, Benjamin of Kansas, Martha BAIDERSON of Nebraska, Jane MILLER of Iowa, Job NOON of Colorado, Caleb of Tenessee [sic], Wm. NOON of Minnesota, Mary CURLEY of Clarion, Iowa and Anna WINKLER of Prophetstown.

Tampico Tornado:
January 19, 1901
OBITUARY.
CHAS. NOON, JR.
Charles NOON, Jr., was born July 20, 1855, in Warwickshire, England; died at his father's home in Tampico Jan. 9, 1901, at 4 o'clock a.m., at the age of 45 years, 5 months and 19 days. With his father's family he arrived at Tampico July 19, 1874, where he resided until his death. When an infant he was baptised [sic] into the Episcopalian church. His motto was, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." He was of a quiet and gentle nature, loved by all who knew him, and a hard and constant worker until about ten years previous to his death, when his health failed him, and he has been a quiet sufferer until he peacefully passed away. He leaves a father, mother, six brothers and six sisters, and a host of friends, to mourn his death. The funeral sermon was preached in the M.E. church by Rev. BERNREUTER and the remains were laid at rest in the Tampico cemetery.

I hope these help.

Hi Maggie,
I wonder if you were on the "headstone" page instead of the Tampico Memorial Cemetery Index page. I started taking photos of the headstones in the TMC and then I link them to the Cemetery Index. However, I have not photographed all of the headtstones yet. Charles Noon is buried in the TMC. If you want, I can take a photo of the headstone for you.

You addressed "Brian" in your earlier post. I suspect you are referring to Brian Sanders who has his own website (he links to us for many of his FOY family members).

Anyway, Les has given you some good tips and obits. He is correct, the Winklers are in the Leon Cemetery (see Index on TOC) Let me know if I can be of help or if you need guidance tips on navigating the site for your searches.
