Hello Suz, Obviously "Pierce" is your gm maiden name. If she was married, what was her husband's name? Where did they live? Thanks,
Denise

Hi Suz, Until I know a little more information such as Hazel Pierce's married name (if she was married), I'm not sure what information is pertinent. The Sterling Gazette, published from 1854 to present has many articles on Pierce families. Here are some that may be of help to you:
STERLING PUBLIC LIBRARY (See their Directory & Reference page)

The Sterling Gazette has the following news articles:

Subject Description Date Location
Pierce, Trank (Beno Alexins Jenson) obituary 19 Nov 1962;6;2
Pierce, Trank (Beno Alexins Jenson) funeral rites 21 Nov 1962;2;4
Pierce, Trank closing out sale 2 Feb 1931;9;7-8

Pierce, Frank marriage license issued; Bene Jensen 30 Jan 1900;1;4 [I think they mis-transcribe his first name]

I'm not sure if this is really "Frank" or suppose to be "Trank":
Pierce, child Infant obituary/ Mr. & Mrs. Frank Pierce 6 Dec 1912;3;1
Pierce, Frank Mrs. obituary 11 Dec 1913;9;1

Pierce, Hazel weds Robert Mayberry 7 April 1925;2;5

Pierce Family reunion 29 Jun 1942;9;4
Pierce Family reunion 23 Jul 1945;2;3
Pierce family 4 generations 19 July 1952:2;4-5

Note: The last column gives the date of issue, page number & column number. If you are in the area, you can review them yourself and even print them out. If you are not in the area, you can either see if your library participates in the inter-library loans, or contact Marilyn Anderson, Genealogy Dept. in the Sterling Public Library. See their "Directory" page of web site. Replace the _at_ with the @ symbol. Marilyn can send you copies of the articles.

Marilyn can get very busy, so if she is not able to help in a suitable time-frame, contact me and I can transcribe it for you on my next trip to the library. Please do not ask us both to do it at the same time.

You have "Grenville" as place of death for Lars. Grenville is in Bond County, IL. However, the IL Death/Stillborn Index shows the following information on "a" Lars Jensen:
Name: Lars Jensen
Spouse: Andra Jensen
Father: Jens Jensen
Birth: 18 May 1851 in Luland, Denmark
Death: 2 May 1922 in Greenville Twp, Bureau, Illinois

Also (if that is your Lars):
Denmark Births and Christenings, 1631-1900s Record
Birth, Marriage & Death
Name: Lars Jensen
Father: Jens Hansen
Mother: Maren Kirstine Christoffersdr
Birth: 18 May 1851
Residence: Denmark
Baptism: 20 Jul 1851 in Fuglse, Maribo, Denmark

If this is your Lars, then I highly recommend you contact the Bureau County Genealogical Society. They have a very helpful staff and have indexed all of Bureau County's newspapers. I can't remember what year they have done that through. Bureau County Genealogical Society

If you still feel your Lars died in Bond County, here is information for Bond County.
Try contacting the Bond County Genealogical Society for an obit for Lars Jensen. They may have other information on him. Do you know when he came to the USA? There are 208 "lars Jensens" on Ellis Island manifest. That was open for passengers 1894-1924. Of course, it's not the only port of entry, but it's a start if he came over in that time frame.

I will continue searching other resources for Hazel. I don't think I'll find much in our Tampico Tornado newspaper (1876-1966), since she was between 7-16 yrs. old when they moved to Bureau County. But I will look anyway.

If you follow through with the Bureau County Genealogical Society & the articles from the Sterling Newspaper Index, touch base and let us know what you have found so we don't duplicate efforts. Thanks.

OBITUARY IN STERLING GAZETTE:
Mayberry, Hazel Della (Robert) obituary 11 April 1930;16;2

HAZEL DELLA (PIERCE) MAYBERRY - was born at Tampico, Ill., May 22, 1903, and died at her home on Griswold Avenue, Sterling, Ill., Thursday afternoon, about 2 o'clock, April 10, 1930, aged 26 years, 10 months, and 18 days. She was the second daughter of the twelve children of Frank and Bena Jensen Pierce, and attended the public schools of Tampico, graduated from the eight grade at the age of fourteen years. She was a member of the Methodist S.S. during her girlhood years. On April 6, 1925, she was united in marriage to Robert B. Mayberry, the ceremony being performed at St. John's Lutheran parsonage, and one of her close friends, Miss Edna Coble, being an attending witness. To this couple two children were born, Robert R. Jr., aged three years, and John LeRoy, aged 18 months. Besides her parents, husband and children already mentioned, she leaves to mourn her loss the following brothers and sisters: Edward, Frank, Jr., and Donald R. of Tampico; Stella, wife of Carl Hasselman; Sarah, wife of Carl Scott, both living in Tampico; Lucille, wife of George Stellzer, Sterling; Bernadine K., Evelyn J., Vera M., Beverly J., and Marjorie O., at home. Mrs. Mayberry had not enjoyed good health for some time, but she became seriously ill only two days before her death which was due to heart failure. She was conscious up to the very last and seemed to realize that she was nearing her journey's end. To our limited wisdom the journey of her life seems comparatively short, and the burden of sorrow is all the heavier because she, in the relationship of daughter, wife, mother, had so much to live for. She was very industrious and kind and these characteristics not only bound her to loved ones in the family circle, but won for her many friends, who regret that her life has ended so soon. The truth of the life immortal in our Lord Jesus Christ, is that which we need at a time like this to sustain us under the burden of sorrow. There was no word the Master Teacher ever spoke which has in it more promise and hope than that which He declared to His disciples, "Because I live, ye shall live also."

Hi Suz,
I found my research records from 2009 on this family! Someone else, who descends from Trank's line, was researching this family. The obit for your Robert would be the Oct. 25, 1943. Check with Marilyn and see if she has time to send this and the other info I sent earlier, to you. If not, get back with me and I can transcribe it on my next trip to Sterling. (Which might be a while if this nasty weather & snow keep it up!) Smile.
