This is for genealogists who love solving a mystery!
I think I’m a descendant of Tampico pioneers Whitcher Dow (1804-1882) and Eunice Bump (1806-1877). At least my DNA indicates that I may be. My mother was adopted and after doing a tree on her adoptive parents and taking all three DNA tests, I’m pretty sure she was not adopted by a family member, although her adoptive father has ties to Linn and Clinton Counties in Iowa.
The DNA tests have fairly closely matched me to two people who have Whitcher and Eunice in their family trees. There are also other matches who have ancestors with ties to Tampico or Whiteside and Bureau Counties such as Chapin, Larson, Loudenberg and others. A known first cousin on my father’s side did an Ancestry test so I can rule out that these matches are related on my father’s side.
I did a descendancy chart for Whitcher and Eunice, listing their children, their children’s children and their spouses. I know not all descendants are listed – I’m still finding ancestors that I missed, but I’ve listed over a thousand descendants! I’ve also done charts in an attempt to try to connect my other matches with ties to Tampico and Whiteside County.
I suspect that one of my mother’s parents is on that chart. She was born in June of 1922. My birth certificate says she was born in California but the state of California has no record of her birth under her adopted name. Since her adoptive parents had ties to Iowa, she could have been born there – or in Illinois (or really, anywhere in the U.S.).
I have lots more bits of information, just ask! Her high school yearbook pictures are on ancestry if seeing her face would help.
Thank you for any light you can shed on this mystery. If you have any questions, you can contact me at bat_hareem [at] yahoo [dot] com.

Hi Elaine! Do you know Debra Pierceson Peterson or Les Niemi. They both relate to Witcher. I'm going to link this page to our Facebook Group, since we seem to get a faster response.

I think that H.H. Dow lived in California for a while- maybe Les will know.
I am also related to the Loudenburg family.

Debra, Les contacted me at my email address. I sent him a lot more detailed information. There are several Dow's (and other descendants) that lived in California (one was in San Francisco in 1909). I'm still working out the Loudenburg line - if you'd like more detailed information, shoot me an email and I'll send you what I sent Les. Elaine

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the readers of this forum. Through information and suggestions from readers, I was able to find my mother's biological parents. Whitcher Dow and Eunice Bump are indeed my ancestors as well as members of the France, Chapin, Paine and Langdon families.
If anyone has questions about my research, you can contact me at bat_hareem [at] yahoo [dot] com.
