Dear Denise,
I am not sure if you can help me. I have searched the TAHS Message Board and found copious references to the younger Ekdahl’s but only a few for Benjamin and his second wife Christina.
Christina Ekdahl (formerly Jonsson or Johnson, nee Pålsson) was my 2 x great aunt. She was my great grandmother’s sister. She was born in Ausas, Skane, Sweden on 14 March 1845. She emigrated to America in 1870. The next year she married Per Jonsson in La Porte, La Porte county Indiana. She had two sons Fritz or Fred in 1872 and Adde or Eddie in 1873.
After that as far as my family here in Australia and my distant cousins back in America knew she disappeared. However, I received an answer to a Forum post I had put on Roots Chat which was the Probate Record for Christina’s mother who died in 1885 in Sweden. This record listed The exact birthdates of 6 children with first names only. The last four children were Victor, Euphrosyne, Matilda and Louisa. It said Christina had died in the USA but it did not say where or when.
Then I and a cousin commenced searching on first names only for people with the same birthdate and eventually I found Viktor Cornelius Ekdahl born 11 November 1877 and there he was in the 1880 census for Fairfield, Whiteside, Illinois with all the brothers and sisters and half brothers and half sisters and his parents Benjamin and Christina.
So, my question is, PLEASE do you have anymore information about this mysterious Christina who turned up after Benjamin’s first wife died (we presume), married him (we presume though we can find no record) and had four children by him between 1877 and 1884 and then died (no record) soon after the last child Louisa was born??
I tried to register for membership so that I could post a query but I didn’t get a reply maybe because I am from Australia with no obvious connection to Tampico? Paula Devers has been trying to help my cousin Evelyn Prineas about research on the same person and she referred me to this website.
Thank You for your time, Kindest regards, Linda Combe Sydney, Australia
