Administrator Denise 84 posts Aug 04, 2004 8:15 AM	Transcribed from PORTRAIT & BIOGRAPHICAL ALBUM OF WHITESIDE COUNTY, Originally published 1885, Chapman Brothers, Chicago, IL ROBERT M. CARR, merchant at Fenton Center, who was born Feb. 13. 1854. in the township of Fenton. Merrill P. Carr, his father, came with his father, Timothy CARR, to Fenton Township in 1838, when he was but eight years of age. Merrill P. CARR was born in Vermont, in September, 1830. He married Phebe A. HOFFMAN, a native of Virginia. He settled about the time of his marriage on section 20, Fenton Township, and at the time of his death, in September, 1862, he owned 258 acres of land. His widow afterwards became the wife of Paschal DAVIS, and they reside in Shelby Co., Mo. Robert M. is the second son and second child. James, his eldest brother, is a practicing attorney at Maysville, Nodaway Co. Mo. Charles W. next younger, lives in Lyndon. Clara married Dyer BOOTH, and lives in Barton Co., Mo. Lawren D. is County Superintendent of Schools, in Sully Co., Dak. Mr. CARR was reared on his father's homestead and educated in the common schools. He was married Feb. 25, 1875, to Cynthia L. daughter of I., J. and Sarah Robinson. He located on a part of his father's estate, of which he is now the owner. In 1881 he went to live in Fenton Center and in February, 1882, in company with his brother, he established a mercantile enterprise. They conducted their joint business two years, when R.M. CARR became by purchase sole proprietor, and has since managed his affairs singly. In 1884 he leased the elevator at Fenton Center and has since been engaged in traffic in grain and stock. In the spring of 1885 he began the sale of agricultural implements. He is Postmaster of Fenton, to which he was appointed in 1882. They are the parents of five children, namely, Minnie A., Clara E., Sarah A., Linneus M. and Mary I. Les Guest Mar 14, 2005 7:36 PM	Is Clara E. nee CARR BOOTH the daughter of Merrill Pilsbury and Pheobe Ann nee HOFFMAN CARR [as noted in the "Booth Family" photos of Clara] or the daughter of Robert M. (son of Merrill P. & Pheobe A. CARR) as noted in the Biography in this message series??? Les
Administrator Denise 175 posts Mar 16, 2005 7:52 AM	Good question, Les. Maybe Howard Booth can contribute more info. The way I am reading the Bio, it looks as if there are two Claras. The second paragraph is listing info on the children of Merrill & Phebe, which includes a Clara that married Dyer Booth. In the fifth paragraph, it is listing Robert's five children, one of which is also a Clara E., making her the niece of the other Clara. Howard???? Can you add anything to this??? tnsister 1 post Apr 23, 2005 4:44 PM	I have read that Timothy Carr, from VT had a daughter, Dorothy. Do you have any information about this Dorothy? I'm searching for my husband's GG-Grandmother Dorothy Carr Adams. She was b. abt. 1814 in either VT or MA. She married Franklin Adams in 1834. He was born, 1814 in Swanton, Vt. His family moved to E. Aurora, Erie County, NY when Franklin was a boy. Franklin and Dorothy had two children in NY, Angeline, and Samuel, they then moved to WI, where Moses and Andrew were born. They finally settled in NE Iowa.
Anonymous Guest May 20, 2005 8:16 PM	To Denise: Clara E Carr, 1830-1950 is the daughter of Merrill Pliisbury Carr.I show a Clara E Carr 1825- which is her aunt, and Clara Carr Booth was her daughter. I am sorry for the delay, I haven't been on for a while. Howard Booth HBooth6557@AOL.com
sarles@hal-pc.org Guest Jan 31, 2006 3:06 PM	CARR: Les inquired 14 Mar, 2005 to determine whose daughter Clara E. Carr Booth was, M.P. Carr's or Robert M. Carr's. The confusion arises over the fact that there are two Clara E. Carrs; one, Clara Eliza Carr, born 1850 to Merrell Pilsbury Carr and the sister of Robert; the other, Clara E. Carr, b. 1878 to Roberyt Melville Carr and Cynthis Louritte Robinson Carr. Dave Sarles.
