r.short/search 1 post Aug 30, 2004 12:30 PM	hello, I am thomas h. short. My father was born in Tampico in 1904 july 1.I am seeking any info. on his father Roy E. Short. Roy Short married my g.m. Alzora Yarde at Tampico in 1903.Roy disappeared about 1909 from Tampico after my father lauren Howard Short and his bro. wayne were born. The only other clues I have are Roys mother was a Cher- kee indian possibly from Walnut area named papsitko and his father [ Loren} maybe from missouri. Can you help us find anything on this query? Like that Roy Short you suggested as a possibility. I was wondering about a Amos Short in whiterside county about 1840. He is the bro. of Ira B.Short{the patriarch of the Miss.steamboat shorts)Could his descendants include my g.f.Roy Short? Also,There is a Roy Short in Norwalk Tnship Los Angelos 1920 and 1930 born in Mo.I do not have ways to find out about him.Can you check on this one? Thanks again Tom
Administrator Denise 112 posts Oct 23, 2004 3:56 PM	Tom, I get the feeling you are "grasping at straws." Do you have any family documents? Birth/marriage/death certificates? Start with yourself and work backwards. Your father's birth certificate should give the age of his father at the time of his birth, which will give you an idea of when he was born. Get these documents now while you still can. The "Homeland Securtity" act is trying very very hard to keep us from getting these documents anymore and some states have already tightened their restrictions! Was your father born before 1930? If so, he should show up on the census record. If he is living with your father at the time, you will be able to see the appx d.o.b. of his father and where he and his parents were born. "Roy Short" is too generic to randomly search without a plan. Zora Yarde is seen in a 1910 census Harmon tnsh.lEE CO IL.reports my g.f. born in Il. while my fathers census of 1930 Rockford says his fa ther born in Mo.Sorry for the mess. If I HAD to choose which were most likely correct, I would pick your father's b/c. He was born in L?Anse, MI. on September 27, 1954, son of Paul and Jean (Short) Walitalo. David graduated from Baraga High School in 1971 and remained a lifetime area resident. He was self-employed for many years as a well driller. Mr. Walitalo is survived by his daughters; Jacqueline and Jessica Walitalo of L?Anse, parents; Paul and Jean Walitalo, brothers; Mark Walitalo of Ann Arbor, MI., James Walitalo of Charlo, Montana, sisters; Paula (Gordon) Polito of Port Orchard, WA., and Lisa (Jeff) Siler of Spokane, WA., maternal grandmother, Ruby Short of Yuba City, CA. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arvo & Sally Walitalo, and maternal grandfather, Roy Short. A family service of remembrance will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The problem is deciding which one the 1941, the 1947,or the 1975.My qu estion to you before I order is if my g.m. Zora Yarde Short had Roy Short declared legally dead (1909-1912) is there a death cert.somewhere in Illinois? Thanks Tom

I know that i have Cherokee in my family. I don't know if that will help at all but it might. I don't really know anything about my great grandfather because he died before i was born Jessica W.

I really don't know what to search for though because i don't know really any info about him except for that he died in California, and it is hard to look for cencus records for where he lived because i remember my grandma telling me that when she was little she was hardly at the same school for a year. r.short/search 3 posts Jun 21, 2005 1:10 PM	Hello Jessica and Denise; Thanks for the message on my search for Roy E Short.Looks like you hit a good little vein of info.,however that Roy Short would not fit my needs as my father was born July 1,1904 and your Roy was born April 1904.I am working on another Roy E.Short b.June 5,1881 d.Jan26,1941.I know what he was doing 1920-1941 but am still searching his whereabouts of 1900-1920 plus I have his death certificate and parents names.So I am still searching for my grandfather Roy E.Short Thanks for your input.T.Short

Also, in a prior msg. you asked if there were a death certificate in IL if your gm declared him dead btw 1909-1912. Do you know what county that was in? As for that death certificate, I see my g.m. lived in Lee co for a while I will check over to Dixon and see about it. It does seem that the grand parents were pretty lax about records...
