The concept of linking the beauty and history of Illinois with the five locations important in the life of Ronald Reagan is great, however the tour routing makes no sense. Every day-trip type tour I've seen is always circular in nature, allowing one to return on a differnet route than already taken. From Tampico the route to Dixon takes you first to Ohio and then north on Route 26 to Dixon. Using Mapquest, the route provided goes north out of Tampico and then east to highway 40. I found the route east on Hahnaman Road even more pleasant and allowed a stop at the Elk Farm. This same route could go through Rock Falls, where food and stop-over facilities are plentiful, and then on to Dixon either along route 30 or the faster interstate. The route from Tampico to Galesburg is even more illogical. Mapquest routes that trip south to highway 92 and then west through Yorktown to route 78. From there one could continue on to the interstate or travel south to Hooppole and Kewanee to pick up highway 34 to Galesaburg and Monmouth. Routing all the way back to Princeton, as the Reagan trail does, is a way no-one would take. This route also takes in the three stops of the legendary Hooppole, Yorktown, and Tampico railway which was important in Ronald Reagan history. I know changing this route would involve govenmental agencies the don't accept changes easily, but I hope someone will see my recommendations and perhaps act on them!

May I point out that what you call the interstate is now the RONALD REAGAN MEMORIAL highway (interstate 88). Hopefully the state will update or modify the designation of the Ronald Reagan Trail to accept your suggestions or at least recognize additional routings.............

J, Here are the people responsible for the RR Trail - you may have better luck presenting your suggestions to them: http://www.ronaldreagantrail.net/index.html Thanks for your input. ---------- Denise, Tampico Area Historical Society

The other day as I stood in front of the Ronald Reagan museun in Tampico's historic district, I looked up and noticed the white and brown sign upon which was written "Ronald Reagan Trail - END", and I thought, what an irony that just outside the doors of what was the beginning of a 93 year journey touching virtually every part of the world by the undoubtably most famous man of our time, should be the word END.
