I'm looking for information on the Olmstead family, particularly the ancestors of Roy W. who married Kate Lyon, and Stuart E. who married Rhoda Lyon. Roy and Stuart were both employed with the Prophetstown electric company after they were married. Kate and Rhoda are daughters of Marcus Ruel and Minerva Miller Lyon of Tampico.
I think Roy and Stuart were brothers, but have no information about their parents, residence, etc. Roy was born May 11, 1872, Stuart November 28, 1879.
Stuart and Rhonda had one daughter, Elsie Fay, born April 19, 1907. Elsie married John W. Pape.
Roy and Kate had no natural children, but adopted Idabell, daughter of Kate's brother Marcus Ruel Jr. and wife Ida Barenthin. Idabell was born October 21, 1917. She married Lloyd Wildman.

Hi. I am also trying to find information on an Olmstead and his wife. Henry W. OLMSTEAD who married Sarah OATMAN. I have not found a connection yet but it might be possible that Henry is an older brother of Roy and Stewart.

My great-great grandmother is Orrilla Eddy Greene. Fanny, wife of George Olmstead, is a sister of my great-grandfather Horatio P. Greene. I am sending materials today via snail mail to webmaster Denise McLoughlin. Bryan Ballowe may contact her for my e-mail address.

I used the link on this site to IL Trails History and Genealogy (see bottom of middle column on Tampico Home page),Whiteside County, and found a biography naming Oliver Olmstead as father of George W. Olmstead. I also saw that Oatman is a searchable name on that site, but did not find the answer to your questions. The obits I have are for Orrilla Eddy Greene, and her children Horatio P. Greene, Alma Greene Smith, and Fanny Greene Olmstead. Fanny died almost 42 years of age, so perhaps George O. remarried and had other children. Fanny's obituary said she had two sons and a daughter. I knew that some of my ancestors are buried in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown, and found Alma Smith and her husband DK Smith are buried there. This information is on that IL Trails website, Whiteside County, Cemeteries. There is another George Olmstead buried in Riverside Cemetery, but that is a later date of birth than Fanny's husband. I hope this will help your research. Susie Roth

To all of you searching for Olmstead's. There used to be a lot of them in the Prophetstown area, most are now in the cemetery. One built a brick house about 3/4 of a mile north of where I live. They made the bricks out of the clay in one of the fields that we now own. The Olmstead's that I find listed in the Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown are: Jonathon G.--Sept. 1, 1826-May 3, 1859; Emma J.--Sept. 13, 1856-March 23, 1861; Ida M.--Dec. 27, 1858. George W.--1838-1930--Co.D 9th IL Cav. Mary R.--1859-1948. Burnett Olmstead--1897-1935. George Herbert Olmstead--1893-1951. From another book that I have, these are the ones listed: Olmstead infant, Agnes Johnson Olmstead, Anna, Burnette R., Dean, Emma J., Etta, Fannie Greene Olmstead, George Hubert, George W., Jennie, Jonathan, Kate Lyon Olmstead, Mary Rice Olmstead, Maxine, Roy W., & Vincent B. My neighbor, Jack Olmstead, passed away since this list was compiled. There is a Stuart Olmstead buried in the Tampico Cemetery. There are 4 Olmstead's buried in the Minson or as we call it, the Washington Street Cemetery. It is about 2 miles north of me. One stone was not legible when they walked these cemeteries and recorded them in the 1950's. The other 3 are: Edna C.Olmstead, son of O.& E., died May 10, 1856--1 year. Henriett Olmstead, daughter of H.W. & M.M., died Dec. 31, 1859, the illegible one was on the same stone and that person died Nov. 6, 1855 at 23 years of age. Henry Olmstead died Dec. 28, 1866--age 83 years. If anyone of these looks familiar, we can look further into records for you. I have some information on the Lyon Family, and the Morrison library has a lot of books about the Lyon Family. I will ask Jack's wife if she has information about the Olmstead's that may be of help to you. Any details that you could supply about what you are looking for would be helpful. Janet

I'm sorry, but the Anna I mentioned was listed as Anna Olmstead, so she would not be the Curley. I would need to go to the cemetery to see which Olmstead she was married to. All the people that I listed had the last name of Olmstead, I guess that I got lazy and didn't write Olmstead after each one of them. Sorry about that. I will be more careful next time. Janet
