Denise, Hello, my name is James Joyner and I came across the Tampico Historical Society web page trying to find out more information about my relatives. The web page has been extremely helpful with finding my relatives whom I've never know much about. With the help of the web page I have been able to trace my family back to the 1700's. The family I'm talking about is the Darnell family who lived in tampico for many years. My grandmother was the daughter of Leroy and Jennie Irene Darnell who's family had lived in Tampico. The reason for writing to you is that I was wanting to know if there was any other information that anyone there would have on the Darnell family. I have been trying to research my family for some time and would love to know more if possible. The Information I've found so far is the family generation of John and Rachel Darnell and Rogers which has given me a bunch of information about my family. If there is any more information that isn't listed on the web site I would like to find out or anything at all. Please feel free to send me emails or you can give me a call my number is 309-299-6964 my name is James Joyner. Sincerly, James T Joyner IV

The Historical Society is closed for the 2010 season, but on my next trip into town, I will stop in to see if we have a "vertical file" on the Darnell family. I should have the Funeral Logs for the ones buried in the TMC and Yorktown Cemetery. And I'll look up the other obits for those buried here. I would also recommend you post your query on our Message Boards. You can continue on the DARNELL/ROGERS message thread or start a new message if you like. You do need to "register" (upper right corner of MSG BRD page). This helps keep the spammers out. Once you register, I have to manually approve it. I check the registrations a couple of times a day. Or, if you prefer, I can post it for you.

Denise, Thank you very much for all of the information you sent. There was a bunch that I didn't see when I was searching the site. It has been very helpful with what I'm trying to accomplish. If you could please, could you start a new message on the message board?
Also, I seen the family picture that a person found and posted and was wondering how I could get a copy of it. My other concern is my grandmothers mother, Jennie Irene Bacon Darnell. I was told that she became ill and pasted away at a young age. I haven't been able to find anything about her life or what happen to her. I know she is buried in the local cemetery in Tampico, or any information about her family. Everything you have supplied me with I am very grateful for. Thank you so much for all of your help. I see that you wrote that the historical society is closed, I was wondering when it will open back up? I would enjoy coming up and taking a look at all the information you all have provided there. I was also wondering if you have any pictures or original documents that can be copied there. Thank you, James T. Joyner IV

Not sure which picture you are referring to. If it is on the website, you are welcome to print it off. Some of the information, including pictures is only on the website, but not in a file at the historical society. People send things to us electronically (via email) and I just upload to the site. But, I may have the photo. Can you send me the link to page that the photo is on?
I can check the Historical Society's Family History Library/Research Center for more information, such as obits, funeral log info, etc. on my next trip. I can also check to see if there is a "Family File" in our file cabinets. (I don't think there is, but it's been a while since I was in the files).
The Historical Society is run by volunteers, so it is open by appt. only. We try to be open on w/e from April - Nov, but it's not always possible. I am the only one that knows the FHL/RC, so it would be best to make an appt. with me to meet you there sometime. You can email me or my # is 815-590-2143.
I will get back with you after my trip to the historical society (hopefully this week or next). If you think of anything else, let me know. I see you on Ancestry.com. So your grandmother was Vera Darnell? Do you have any other information on her? DOB? DOD? Marriage? Any information you can give will help in the search. Thanks. Denise, Thank you very much for the picture of my great grandmothers Head stone. I've never seen it before, due to never making my way up there and for the longest time not knowing my family was from tampico. I'm not very familiar with that area. Hopefully after the beginning of the year I can make my way up there sometime. The Picture I was referring to was the one the lady from canada found in the back of the painting of the Pope family picture in front of their home in tampico. Also, thank you for taking the time to send me the orbit and funeral log. That helped me with a lot of information. I never new where she died and exactly how. I will try to log in and start a new message on the message board for more information. I think my intentions now are to find out as much as I can about Jennie's family. Yes, my grandmother is Vera May Darnell DOB is June 3, 1916 and DOD is December 23, 1999. She Married Roger Glen Olson who was born in Canton, Il and his father was from Sweden, Swan Olson. That is another thing I'm trying to figure out is information about his family. With his father being from another country it has made it harder to find information. Everything you have provided me with has made my research so much easier and I have learned so much thanks to you and the historical society. If I think of anything else I will let you know. Mystery House Photo this is the link for the picture I was talking about. Blanche Wheelock Darnell is in the photo and I was wonder how she would be related to the Darnell's. Thank you again for all of your help, I greatly appreciate everything you have helped me with. Happy Holidays, James T. Joyner IV

Hello James, I found a little more info. The Clarence Darnell that Blanche Wheelock married was a brother to LeRoy J.Darnell. See the 1900 census record. You'll note that the census record also lists his year of birth as 1880, but his WWII Draft Registration lists his birth date as Oct. 30, 1881.
