A message I received:
Dear Tampico Historical Society, I ran across a reference to your web site today as I was doing a little surfing on a few of my ancestors. I happen to have been born here and live in the next community west of Tampico, Prophetstown. I've been into genealogy for over six years and have an extensive family file, but like all genealogists, we have our brick walls. One of which is in the identity of a woman who is believed to have been born in PA., and buried in Tampico. Her last name before marring my 2nd great grand-father was VanDrew. Some researchers believe her name may have been Vanderow, as it's a common name in the lower PA and MD border line area. When on your site, the first thing I looked at was the family files of local people, and here is this Unknown Teach with wife of Mary Ann VanDrew. Well, hello who ever you are, as I have a ton of information on the Teach family. According to my records, Mary Ann VanDrew married John A. Teach, and as I told above, they are my second great grandparents. John A. Teach: b. 8 March, 1825, PA. the son of Peter and Betsy (Rush) Teach. Peter first married Betsy 3 April, 1809, and she died 1830. His second marriage was to Martha (Rush) Hull, and had a second family with her. Peter and Martha came west also, and are buried in the Coal Creek Dunkard Cemetery, Fulton County, Illinois. John A. first married Annie, (last name unknown) 24 Oct. 1848 and Annie died 28 Feb., 1849. We believe in 1850, John then marries Mary Ann VanDrew. John was a stone mason while living in Fair View, Washington County, Maryland, but became a farmer after moving to Prophetstown, in the 1870's. John had nine sons and four daughters. Seven of the sons became blacksmiths and six of them if not in, were very close to Whiteside County. One of these sons, was Samuel Washington Teach, who married Sarah Edith Forward, who has descent from the site mentioned family George Forward and Sarah Crager. The Forwards were located just east of Leon Corners, and may have had a Yorktown address at the time. Samuel and Sarah are resting in the Lyndon cemetery. The Teach line, came across the Atlantic and landed in Philadelphia, 1738 on the Billender Thistle. But, there were no names of Teach boarding the ship in Rotterdam, Holland. However, there was a Dietz family on board that had came from the southern parts of Germany. (Palatine) One of this family was 12 year old Johann Petter Dietz. His father was Johan Ullrich Dietz. When the ship unloaded, the 12 year old Johann Petter Dietz was not recorded, but as he came through customs they recorded and sent him on the way with the identity of Petter Teach, and this line of his, has been known as Teach ever since. The Dietz family have several generations of recordings, before Johann Petter Dietz's Confirmation, 4 April 1738, in the Evangelical Reformed Church, Rieschweiler, Zweibrucken. This confirmation of his was just before leaving Germany. I'm unclear as to just when John A., moved from Prophetstown to Tampico, but we at least know he did. He died there 13 Jan., 1894 and John and Mary are resting pretty close to the front gate in the Tampico cemetery. Some where in my travels, I remember reading (maybe I dreamed) that he was buried south of Tampico, in what appears to be an abandon cemetery. If he was, then I believe a move could have happened as his marker is very bold there on the north end of town. I would love to be in touch with the person leaving tracks to Unknown Teach and Mary Ann VanDrew. Thanks to all, and you have a wonderful web site. Jack in Prophetstown (I'll be over one of these days)

I saw your information about Johan Petter Dietz which was changed to Teach. Do you know of any information about Johan Philip Dietz who came to Philadelphia, PA on the Ship Neptune in 1754? I have been trying to determine if he is my gggg grandfather. Please contact me at pdeeds007@aol.com
