Tampico Memorial Day Cemetery Walk 2011

The Tampico Area Historical Society will sponsor the annual Memorial Day Cemetery Walk in both of Tampico's Cemeteries. The walk will begin in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. The Tampico American Legion Post 574 will begin the ceremony in each cemetery with a gun salute, prayer and taps. Presentations for this cemetery will honor James & Mary Foley, presented by Deana Newman, great granddaughter; and Ruth & William Schauff, presented by Deb Weir, granddaughter. Both families farmed in the Hahnaman area.
The program will continue over to the Tampico Memorial Cemetery with the Tampico American Legion Post 574 again beginning with a gun salute, prayer & taps. Honorees will be veteran Thomas O. Steadman, presented by his granddaughter Audrey Lange and long-time resident, Margaret Sturm McKenzie, presented by Joan Johnson. In recognition of the Reagan Centennial, Dennis Frary will do a presentation on Ronald Reagan.
Both cemeteries will be lined with the Avenue of the Flags, displayed by Tampico's American Legion Post 574. The Tampico Area Historical Society is again offering their Adopt-A-Grave program with arrangements in small/$5; medium/$10; large/$15 and a saddle/$25. In the case of inclement or threatening weather, the presentations will be held in Tampico's Community Building on W. Market Street.
