THANK YOU! Les Niemi, Shirley Lester, D & W Air Solutions & Fritsch Home Heating for their generous donations.
ACQUISITIONS - Les Niemi donated the window from the old Fairfield Center School that hung over the front door and still has the Dist.# on it.
Welcome New Member: Les Niemi. Descends from Dow & Hogeboom families. Les has been a major contributor to the TAHS website, transcribing the Tampico Tornado issues from 1876-1920. See our Message Boards for his year-long series: "This Week in Tampico History." Here is peek at January: http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.com/board/board_topic/23882/395532.htm To follow the entire year, go to our HOME page & type This Week in Tampico History in the search box. See how many times you can find your ancestors' names.
TAMPICO HISTORIC PRESERVATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE (THPAC) THPAC provides a resource for the owners of Main Street buildings listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. When Tampico was accepted on the National Registry on June 3, 1982, the honor brought with it certain responsibilities. Not only was it listed on the Registry because it is the birthplace of a president, Ronald Reagan, but because Tampico's Main Street historic district is significant as a relatively intact, turn-of- the-century commercial district in a small, rural Illinois community.
I have created a page on our TAHS website, originally reserved for the Inventory - Nomination National Registration Form. The form shows the boundaries of the area listed on the Registry as well as a brief history on each building, including when it was built and by whom. In addition to the form, I have added off-site links pertaining to Repairing, Rehabbing and Maintaining historic buildings. This includes the "Secretary of Interior's Standards." http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.com/Main_Street_National_Registry.html

LEE COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY I had the privilege of attending this program and it was amazing. DIXON - LEE COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY The Lee County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, April 14th at 7pm in the dining room of The Loveland Community House & Museum in Dixon. This month’s program will be presented by a special friend of the LCGS President, Jed Henry from Madison Wisconsin. Jed is an independent videographer/filmmaker who started a project to honor his grandfather’s memory and those who served with him in the 3rd Armored Division during WWII. The project soon morphed into a complete investigation to an incident on Aug. 13th 1944 that resulted in, an exhumation of a WWII soldier, PFC Lawrence Gordon, DNA testing, and the conclusion that resulted in an identification of a soldier previously thought unidentifiable by the US. This is a riveting story of how a team of individuals can overcome the obstacles put forth by time, faulty investigations, and lack of cooperation from the U. S. accounting community. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2BY7meZr6uAM1RLZjZucFNzcDQ/edit?usp=sharing
